LOVE GROWS HERE - YARN BOMBING STREET ART BLOSSOMS IN EDGEBROOK
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Edgebrook, Chicago - May 16, 2017 - Visitors to the Edgebrook shopping district will be greeted by a profusion of flowers and hearts decorating trees on the 5500 block of Devon, in a celebration of spring and community spirit.
The art installation is a yarn bombing, which attaches yarn in various forms to objects in a public environment. Neighborhood volunteers have spent months knitting, crocheting, felting and wrapping over 700 yarn flowers and hearts and 500 feet of vine to decorate the trees.
The theme of the installation, which will remain in place through September, is “Love Grows Here”.
This year’s yarn bombing follows a similar, but much smaller, effort last year. “We had a successful event last year and wanted to build on it,” said Edgebrook merchant Laura Clarke Guenther, owner of Local Goods Chicago. “We involved artists from the community from teenagers to grandmothers in creating the colorful flowers, hearts and connecting vines.”
"Loves Grows Here" blossomed to welcome the Destination Devon street festival on May 20, 2017.
